Chapter 3
Lost

Secret was overwhelmed by all the sounds lights and colors. Everything was a swirling blur as Duncan started driving to somewhere she had no clue if they would actually get to. The world started to right itself as she took deep breaths and tried to calm herself. She felt a little sick to her stomach as they turned onto the highway. "Duncan... where are we going?"  Secret looked over and her vision cleared enough to let her see her brother. His brow was drawn together in concentration. She realized just then that she was sitting beside her brother, no longer a prisoner in a cage made up of white padded walls and barred windows.  Her vision started to blur again as she felt her eyes fill with tears. But she fought them back and just looked at her brother as he looked over to her as he started to answer her.

"We are getting the hell out of-what's wrong?" Duncan must have spotted her tear filled eyes. His frown deepened. "Are you hurt? Secret what's wrong?" His deep voice was grating with worry and anger.

Secret shook her head and replied, "No Duncan...I'm alright. I just ..." She couldn't find the words to thank her brother for what he had done for her. A single tear slid down her cheek.

Duncan's frown vanished and a look of panic and flashed across his features. "Aw come on Secret. Don't do that..." He looked back to the road. He stared to fidget and his cheeks went a shade closer to a blush than the normal sun kissed shade it always was. "You're out Sis. And I wont let them take you back." Duncan looked back over and his dark hazel eyes bore into her with defiance and resolve. "I will never let them put you in that place ever again Secret. I promise you. Never."

She could tell he was uncomfortable about the now two tears that had fallen from her glazed eyes but she heard the familure oath come from Duncan and her tension eased a little. Ever since they were little, when Duncan really ment something he would always say he promised. But he only ever promised Secret anything. Duncan never promised anything to anyone else until he got older. Then for everyone else that he had to make understand he was serious or he was going to do what ever he said he would say that he swears that it was true. But he still never made promises to anyone else but Secret.  And Duncan always kept his promises...always.

Secret sighed and nodded and wiped away the two wet streaks on her cheeks. "I know Duncan. Thank you for this Duncan. I was going crazy in that place." Secret smiled faintly at her own little joke. She was still a little out of it. The medication still making everything seem to come to her through a fog. Her vision and hearing was so hampered and it was so hard to concentrate that she had forgotten for a moment that she was in a moving car. She ended up catching the sight of the world speeding past them through the windows and she recoiled like she was about to be hit. A small strangled noise came from her and her eyes fastened onto Duncan and her mind cleared enough to realize that she was safe.

Duncan looked pained at the look of his little sister strung out on mind altering drugs. "Damn Secret, what the hell do they have you on?" Duncan  slowly reached out to give her a reassuring touch on her trembling shoulder.

Secret felt his warmth flow into her skin and she sighed and closed her eyes trying to remember the name of the medication she was on. "I...I can't remember..." She opened her eyes, they shined in defeat and then she told him all she did remember. "They said it was... some kind of experimental drug that tested well...I don't like it..." Secret started to drift again rambling as her mind couldn't focus. "It makes me stay up forever...I don't remember the last time I slept..." Secrets eyes left Duncan's face and her vision went foggy again. The world blurred around her as Duncan's hand left her, along with all the warmth, "I miss my old sleep Dee...where their wasn't any bad things and everything wasn't so loud and scary..."  Secret was drifting from the lack of adrenaline to focus her mind like a bright light in the dark.

Duncan had seen her like this before. When the meds really hit her hard when they gave her a dose just before he saw her. "Secret did they give you your medicine just before you went to bed?" he asked her as he got off onto the back roads. His brow was furrowed and his jaw was clenched at the innocent confession Secret let slip.

Secret's glazed over eyes found Duncan's face again. Her mind focused enough to answer him. "Uh...yeah they always do...that's why I don't get any sleep except for the days I get to see you Dee...I feel better on those days..." Secret smiled and then her eyes drifted away and she ended up staring down at the dash and rambling on incoherently as the heavy dose pumped through her system. "I can't wait till you get to come to see me again... this is a nice dream... I always have a nice dream the night after I see you... I'm going to be sad when I wake up though... But I can be happy while I'm asleep...until the nightmares come...but they won't come yet...no...not yet...please...not yet..." Secret's eyes started to droop as they became heavy and her voice started to go so soft Duncan could barely hear her last whispered words.

Duncan's jaw clenched hard when he heard that she thought this was just a dream. "Secret. Secret, this isn't a dream. This is real. I'm really here. You really are free."

Secret's blurry eyes came up and she nodded agreeing with her brother as he drove them to where ever they were going. Secret trusted Duncan more than herself. "Okay Dee...I believe you..." then as she smiled at him and laid her head back on the head rest she didn't notice her eyes slid slowly shut as she gently fell into a sleep that came oddly easily beside her brother.
okay so i hope that the reader starts to realize that there is something going on with the way Duncan and Secret make each other focus more and give them security enough to feel safer together...there is something behind that...not anything like incest or anything but something beyond the bonds of siblings...
